Unstoppable Plot Summary
“Unstoppable” is based on the life of Anthony Robles, an incredible man who embodies perseverance and heart. Robles was born with one leg, making life exceptionally difficult for him. Yet, his extraordinary talent in wrestling created a myriad of opportunities, the most notable being a college degree and competing in the upper echelons of collegiate wrestling.
The movie showcases everything that Anthony had to go through, all his schooling difficulties, his struggles back home and the rollercoaster ride that led him to compete at the pinnacle of wrestling at his Arizona State University.
And then what comes in Senior year?
In the year 2010, his senior year, Anthony made it to the finals but lost his nerve there. During the final, he faces Matt McDonough, goes in far too hot and aggressively and ends up losing the match. That said, he remains intent on making a comeback.
Upon returning home, he notices Rick has finally come back after being away for so long and has already thrown the children out of the house. Rick seems to have a bone with Judy, but no matter how much she tries to walk away, Anthony decides otherwise. He confronts his stepfather and demonstrates what he’s capable of. He physically brings the man to his knees, and Judy finally defends herself by calling the police.
Why do the kids write to Anthony?
Anthony does not believe his eyes when he learns that a whole group of children who see him as a real-life superhero were inspired by him. Just like Judy hints toward, these children do not notice the absence of one of Anthony’s legs instead, they view him as someone indestructible who has the ability to face any challenge thrown at him and emerge victorious.
This has been Anthony’s story right from the get-go, whether it’s been through those exhausting training sessions, fighting through challenges at home, or even astonishing his teammates by scaling mountains. He is a true marvel, and it’s evident he has inspired the upcoming generation with his resilience and unyielding will.
What happens at the Finals?
Struggle gives life meaning. In the story “Anthony Robles: Unstoppable”, Robles struggled and surrendered every hope….. until the clock ticked to the final floor. The story comes to a climax at Robles’s finals, where he comes up against Matt McDonough, striving to claim the title of champion. “Robles! You never lose to anyone or anything,” He smirked, “You know that, right? Will you lose in front of us like a coward?” Oh, how motivated he felt at that particular moment.
Now, Unstoppable comes with a gripping ending, achieving these motivating moments.
How does “Unstoppable” end?
As soon as he clinched the title, Robles could spot the flames of motivation igniting in the eyes of children around him. It was, after all, the very first time someone witnessed an athlete accomplishing something as insane and utterly courageous as this. “A major victory for us disabled individuals. I decided at that very moment to sign with Nike”, reminisced Robles. Even after hanging up the belt, Robles held the title of “The first-ever athlete to be contracted by the brand”.
While still working as a motivational speaker, his life took a wild turn with an unconventional streak of bad luck. The ESPY award for ‘Persevering Stay Strong’ came to him in July 2021, while the official title of EPBS came briefly after becoming a sophomore-wrestler pundit at ESPN a year later.
Obama appointed Anthony in 2013 to the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition which had placed him in the administration.
In 2022, Anthony’s journey led him to become the wrestling coach at Mesa High School. This goes to show that destiny shapes character and barriers such as not having a leg are just another mountain to climb. In Anthony’s case, it magnifies how incredible a person this gentleman is, and he is still, to this day, an inspiration to everyone.
