For almost 30 years now, Jennifer Lopez has been one of the most famous names in the world landscape and so, her personal life has become of interest to everyone. One such would be her few relationships and even some failed marriages which always make it to the tabloids ever since she became a pop, movie, and fashion star.

In the gradual rise of her career and the external perceptions of her life, JLO’s side and the internal struggle that accompanied her ascent were never presented to the public. It appears that all of this is the fundamental idea of her new film, which is an hour-long, in conjunction with her album, and an upcoming tour called, ‘This Is Me… Now’.

Lopez also produced and co-wrote the film, in which director Dave Meyers had the task of editing several clips about the stormy romance of the singer. In Jenny From the Block: The Artist, you will be captivated by the visuals and almost immediately need just a few more tracks and dance numbers to truly immerse yourself.

She may have a different name in This Is Me… Now but this is Lopez re-enacting some parts of her that she has been working out for some time. The film and the songs that come with it tend to be about her marriage, how she enjoys being in love, and the aftermath of it all as she sorts it out in her therapist’s office, together with her real-life friend Fat Joe, who is also a rapper.

The movie is filled with major actors who have come in for little roles and we see them throughout the film. The Artist’s quest in finding love is a journey that is overseen by a constellation of Telugu gods that includes the likes of Post Malone, Keke Palmer, Jane Fonda, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Trevor Noah, and others. We also get to witness her real husband Ben Affleck who plays a much-disguised news reporter and provides some comic relief to the scene.

There are also a lot of great layers to this 66-minute documentary as we move from Juarez’s metaphors about Lopez working in a hot, frightening, and overworked factory enslaved to a machine that runs a huge metal heart as well as a metaphor for the fire inside of her that she attempts to keep alight.

Toward the end of the film, she performs a dance that suggests the oh-so-iconic ‘Singing in the Rain’. However, at the beginning of this recording known as The Is Me… Now, there is a story that Lopez narrates in a rather paradoxical fashion, a story which is based around the ancient Puerto Rican tale of Alida or Taroo who gets turned into a flower together with a wren.

Then we cut to Lopez riding a motorcycle, her hands around a man who looks like a sexy Ben Affleck from the early 2000s. This is hilarious because Affleck is the one who is also the guy on the motorcycle. There, her journey begins.

Lopez couples her perils and blessings in love with allegorical art imagery that does not always make an emotional impact. They also try to entice the viewer to go deeper. Whoever is a fan of JLO or not, finds problems relatable or just enjoying the bliss of love eagerly waiting for the heart to be pleased.

Despite being shot in a controlled environment that has numerous green backdrops, the documentary, This Is Me… Now is well done for a love special docuseries. It’s very much Lopez’s baby and with this, she seems to tie several loose ends about a character in her life. Moreover, those who fail to understand the link should know that the title of her third studio record from 2002 was This is Me…Then.

At the time when the movie was filmed, Affleck was already dating her. It is well known that “Bennifer” was not going to make it through the first round of this match, but now it is the year 2024 and she is releasing her ninth album called “This Is Me … Now” (which has a credit to her since she financed her album). Judging from the themes and images in the film that accompany the music, everything must have started to come tenfold for her.

We have seen two faces of Lopez: the New Yorker “Jenny from the Block” and the movie Big Shot in Hollywood,” JLO. Considering this kind of life, one can always find a source of conflict between himself/herself and the external environment. For that reason, it is commendable to go through such challenges under artistic expression so as not to create social issues. Love it or hate Lopez ours was for sure making a point in the movie, at least those of us who were willing to sit down and watch it.
