The Underdoggs Plot Summary
Jaycen (Snoop Dogg) is a washed-up ex-football pro. To top it all, he is given a community service sanction that includes cleaning dog poop in a park, where he meets an ex-lover, Cherise (Tika Sumpter), and plays football with her son and his team until eventually deciding to coach the hopeless, and changing their title from ‘underdogs’ to champions and securing his redemption in the process.
Who does Jaycen pick, The Fox job or the championship match?
Things are good over as Jaycen and his team of misfits make their way to the championship match. Meanwhile, a great assignment is offered to Jaycen, to be a commentator at the Fox channel, but that’s sad because the assignment he has been hoping for all along comes on the very day of the title match.
Jaycen picks the opportunity but he is unable to bear the fact that he is letting the children down, walks away from it, and much to everybody’s astonishment, goes over to the match. He says they are the real family, and under his management, they are supposed to win the match.
What goes on in the course of the match?
The game starts badly for Jaycen, who sees his team up against Chip Collins, the man who he has a score to settle with. Little league comes in for a sour half-time as the children huddle to strategize for the second half.
Tre recommends that they resist defeat because this is what they have known all their existence. With the odds in their favor, the kids step out onto the pitch with the intent to leave everything on the field.
What happens at the end of the Underdogs?
With the final leg of the race approaching, the score is still very tight. The team manages to demonstrate whatever is referred to as a trick play throughout a nail-biting game, but unfortunately, they lose. All is not lost, as the team’s morale seems to be good and Jaycen advises them that losing one game does not end your career or your life. He explains further the importance of their mentality and states that failure is not the end, it’s a beginning for them to rise to the occasion.
What about Jaycen, he is giving the impression of having no problems since a live stream of this game should increase his fanbase, which may call for his return to work. But if he doesn’t, he has gathered something that he loves and praises throughout this piece, which is coaching the children, thus a win-win situation.
