Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin Plot Summary

This marks the first special devoted to Franklin, the very first black Peanuts character. He’s not as over the top as others, but this only shows how much more personality he has. It serves as a decent introduction to him while also being a treat for the veterans of the fans.

Welcome Home, Franklin shares the plot of how the protagonist begins to befriend Charlie Brown and the rest of the gang. His father constantly shifts locations because of work, so the boy has no best friends.

This time, they are going to a different town and he doesn’t even get a chance to make a good impression on anyone. To become friendly with the others, Franklin sees winning soap box racing as an opportunity and teams up with Charles Brown to build the finest vehicle.

What happens at the end of Snoopy Presents: Welcome Home, Franklin?

Charlie Brown and Franklin do have their share of differences, but still make it up to go for the race. While the mutual focus on the new boy rushes forward, Charlie has to cope with the brakes and turn around the other competitors. The pair do not transform into each other but instead, this just proves how strong the duo is.

They even catch up with Lucy and Schroeder, who have been leading the pack since the beginning. Using the shape of the curve coming up to their advantage, Franklin and Charlie Brown push themselves into the lead now. On the other hand, there is an ice cream truck that is skidding down the hill, thereby becoming an obstruction in the road.

Looking at the situation, Charlie Brown knows that they can get back and win the race, but it is Franklin who says he does not want to. The new kid claims that the others would be unable to do that, ruining the fun event in the process. This left them with no option but to go for it and take one for the team. Because of that, Lucy and Schroeder take the lead again and are the first ones to cross the finish line this time around.

To their complete shock, every other person treats them as heroes for completing the task. Even when the team of two tries to cross the finish line, they are again cheered on by other drivers. Lucy announces that they will have free pizzas of her making which is the award for the competition.

In the course of their dinner, Franklin tells Charlie Brown that his father has a new job. His initial impression is that his new friend will have to move again. Fortunately, the job is located in the same town, meaning Franklin will be around for quite some time. That news makes everyone very happy and they say such news calls for more celebrations.

From there, Franklin joins Charlie Brown in the last task of moving into his house, he now feels that he has finally arrived. He has friends close to him and he knows that he can call this place home, something that has been lacking in his life.

What is the controversy with A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving?

The animated special A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving has sparked a controversy over its racial depictions. It’s Thanksgiving, and all the characters prominently appear to go to the main’s house and enjoy a delicious meal together. Strangely though, there is a rectangular table, and Franklin Abraham is seated at one of the edges, with no one else around him. This isolates him from everyone else and creates a disconnect with the audience.

The use of the pizza party scene in this special makes it possible to fix that flaw. Franklin is about to join in with his friends, nearly going to sit down on one of the edges of the table alone. Nonetheless, Charlie Brown and Linus point to a chair and announce that they have one for him. Besides being a precious moment, it is quite obvious this is an effort to assure the audience that this character would not be ignored again. Franklin now looks as though he is an active member of the group.
