As it is evident that the cycle of events tends to repeat ahead of time, both the protagonist and antagonist in Room 0 do not find it easy or enjoyable to experience. The term that portrays a more turn-based approach and is also a concept often found in most science fiction cultures is that of being unable to get out of a circumstance or memory, which has no escape, which is common in sci-fi novels. It is an effective storytelling device, however, it can be emotionally taxing and infuriating for the audience.
The story thus continues building up when Susie Q enters a particular room in a hotel, looking as if she is nervous and trying to stay behind someone. Susie continues to make phone calls to her relatives to ensure that they are safe while receiving a package that she ends up dropping. After mayhem ensues and she goes outside, she immediately comes back inside, going through the same events again and again.
This pattern is also the case with many others, including Susie Sue interacting with, interacting with seemingly different people such as FBI agents, gangsters, and police. All of these individuals have some intention or purpose, although the specifics surrounding it are absent to both the person of interest and the audience of the story. No matter how many attempts she makes, Susie is still stuck in the room, still inside the room, and can’t manage to escape.
The events that are persistent in time and the enigma of the personalities she is involved with create quite a bit of suspense making both Susie and the viewers curious about the events and motives behind them. Susie Q gets a telephone call from a stranger named Galvan who claims that he will assist her out of the position that she is in. Susie has the added burden of being the sole breadwinner in her family so she has to meet her obligations. Even so, the reasons for her suffering and the real character of Galvan are yet unknown.
For those who are fans of movies that have a great deal of action, “Room 0” is probably not the movie for them. This motion picture has more of anticipation and its’ promotion consists of no action. But for those who are prepared to embark on this adventure, there are some interesting things worth focusing on, for instance, the idea of the film and its execution.
If one is looking at the film from the perspectives of cinematography, lighting, set design, etc, one would know that they were done by Richard Kodai and understand his vision. These components insert and maintain a beautiful atmosphere that entertains the viewer even if the film is slow.
Working within the confining space of a single room shapes the work of the technical team in various ways. However, they manage to deliver eye-catching visuals despite the spatial constraints. Furthermore, the cinematographers make an intelligent use of lighting taking it from several sources in the room.
There are special effects in the film aimed at depicting Susie’s thought patterns too. As well as this, eerie music is incorporated in the film’s first act to enhance the prevailing suspense and mystery in the plot of the movie. There has always been the possibility that technologies may be used for evil as well as good.
In all, although Richard Kodai’s Room 0 is intellectually well thought out with regards to the storyline and its purpose, he fails to sustain the attention of his audience. You might be worn out by the end of the film because of the script which seems to drag on and on. Nevertheless, there is, however, no denying the fact that Natalya V. Wood puts in a commendable performance as Susie Q.
