On the other hand, Estela and Hugo maintain some sort of platonic relationship; nonetheless, because of his affluence, he can claim control of the family and becomes their guardian.
What does Sergio do in Paraguay?
Sergio overcomes all adversity in Paraguay, because he finds a dog, gets a job in a household appliances store, and sexually becomes involved with his boss. Fifteen years go by and the phenomenon of social networks is created. He has no trouble finding his family. Watching his daughter’s wedding plans, he decides he is ready to leave Paraguay forever and return to his native Argentina. For some time, Sergio follows his family around the urban sprawl, just waiting for an opportunity to speak to them. After that, during the wedding, Sergio was rather eager to attend the ceremony and quickly got a seat at the back of the church. With dark sunglasses covering his nose, it is then that he realizes that his son has once again looked at him.
Next, Sergio’s daughter comes into view and tears begin to roll from his eyes. However, it is also at that very point in time that he realizes that Hugo, one of the men who made threats against the Thomas family, is walking his daughter down the aisle, as if he herself was a member of the family.
After this ceremony, Sergio goes back to his hotel intending to take his life as there is nothing in this world that is worth living for anymore. He then changes his mind and instead of killing himself, he decides that there are more important things to do, such as going back to the wedding and taking forward the task of killing Hugo. As he says this, He pulls down a balaclava and goes to the reception, but decides to hide in the toilets rather than confronting Hugo head-on. When a gun-slinging Sergio finally emerges from hiding, it is at the very moment when he is about to jump out of a stall to shoot Hugo when his son decides to walk into the bathroom and speak with him.
Then, Sergio walks out of the reception and comically puts on a mask that covers most of the disfigurement. He gets drunk and fumbles on the dance floor with no regard for the well-being of people close by. When he tries to approach his daughter, who is within touching distance albeit not too much, she is spotted by Estela. Both her and Sergio’s stares collide and the fright that Estela has managed to capture through her mask is that of pure shock.
Sergio attempts to go out, but Estela shouts for him. He is about to leave when he hears someone call his name. Too little, too late. It is too late for Sergio because Hugo shoots Sergio dead. On his death, he thinks of the years passed by when he used to live happily with his family.
