Lolo and The Kid Plot Summary
It is the story of a con man named Lolo in “Lolo and The Kid” and a boy who appears to be generations younger called The Kid. They are “forever partners” and have a timetable: con the wealthy, peddle their plunders, frolic at karaoke and fun parks, catch some sleep, and do it all over again. Somewhat like that till some point when things happen, which make the stronger of the duo, Lolo, think otherwise of their ways and put an end to that which changes their lives dramatically forever.
How do Lolo and Kid meet?
Unfortunately for Lolo, he lost all of his luck the moment he was born. Poverty plagued him until his teenage years when he was forced to drop out due to financial constraints. He had a brief stint as a movie extra, but even this ended when he got stage fright and was unable to read his camera lines. Living on the streets for most of his life, there was a point when he tried to commit suicide. His failed resolve came to the aid when he heard a baby from under the garbage. He took the baby in and started working for food and shelter. Lolo lived on the streets taking care of a little infant. The Kid saved Lolo’s life.
So it goes: why are kids titled ‘Kid’?
For Lolo and the child, the day was lived out in hope, for Lolo had a new mouth, his infant child, to feed and so, had to prioritize the survival of his family above everything else. Even thoughts of naming the child, still a few months old, had to wait the time. It was only much later when the child was a toddler and a restaurant customer inquired the child’s name that Lolo said that he did not have one at all.
While watching the film ‘Karate Kid’ somewhere in there between HIS lines he decided on calling the child ‘Kid’. The remarks he made, gave them a touch of reality that they had become seriously dysfunctional at the show, in real life, with Kid being the novice Daniel to Lolo’s experienced and tough skilled Miyagi whom he taught only the survival important tricks of the crooked trade. Both of the people revolutionized the second chance at life of one another in the same fashion as was in the story of the film ‘Karate Kid’.
Why does Lolo bring the Kid with him to the seaside?
While planning to defraud a rich eligible spinster woman, both Lolo and the Kid heard from her about how she was once a mental health patient who was adopted from the streets and was eventually able to stand on her two feet and lead a successful life. Lolo’s perspective changed here and it made him understand why a dramatised life was essential for the mundane life of the Kid.
Still, it did not quite stop there- it changed completely and utterly at their next domestic robbery. One of the couple who rushed into the house to find Lolo and the Kid stealing, hit the Kid with their car, then proceeded to the hospital to treat him as the couple chased after them.
Lolo thoroughly scolded one of the men who accused him of making Kid a part of the cons that he did. They wanted Kid to stay with them, but he managed to sneak out through the back entrance of the hospital. Kid and Lolo were the ones who checked into the motel again.
Lolo found it appropriate to go to the beach, which she had always wanted but had never gone since there was never sufficient funds. This time it was interesting, Lolo and the kid went to the beach and enjoyed themselves together.
Lolo that even told him that he felt very much in love with him. Yet for the following domestic robbery, he left Kid with a couple who she had had to watch die from cancer. Kid had kissed the beach for the last time, it was a farewell to him, literally, and figuratively.
What does Life hold for Kid now that Lolo has left him?
Kid was very lucky as he was adopted by rich and kind s**e parents. The kid went to good schools and ended up working in a pretty good occupation. Despite being satisfied with his life, he always carried Lolo in the back of his mind and often searched around his house in hopes of seeing him again.
Will the Kid and Lolo be able to meet face-to-face in the future?
On one particular day, as Kid is having lunch, a hospital calls him. He rushes to the hospital and there he finds a very old Lolo who is on the verge of death.
They all go into their habitual practices of karaoke after Lolo has sold his camera to a rather overweight man for its old times’ sake. This time though, Lolo’s favourite song is no longer going to be sung for a long time.
After Lolo’s body was taken away, Kid looked around the house and noticed many things, pictures to be exact of himself as a child. These pictures served as proof of Lolo’s existence. Although Lolo did not see him frequently, he was firmly aware of the fact that Lolo was always watching him from afar.
