Kill Me If You Dare (2024)

A dull Polish dark humor drama that focuses more on relationship issues and wealth.

The film Kill Me If You Dare is a Polish dark humor drama film revolving around the story of Piotr and Natalia. At the start of the film, there is a rather romantic scene where Piotr gets on his bicycle and drives towards the train station looking for his girlfriend Natalia who intends to leave.

However, Piotr manages to be late for the train. His beloved changes her mind about leaving and comes back to a sad Piotr who asks her to marry him, and she agrees. Five years on, the amorous passion seems to have burnt out, and the married couple is neck-deep in loans.

Natalia is in advertising and has a sexist employer who reserves all good job opportunities for male companions, while Piotr is an insurance salesman who works with his high school girlfriend, whom he is in a strained relationship with. On their anniversary, the pair randomly buys a lotto ticket and they happen to win a huge sum. Will money resolve their issues or will it present more complex issues for the pair to seek resolution for?

Kill Me If You Dare seems interesting by attempting to combine love stories and dark comedy but the screenplay fails to provide any form of thrill or new ideas. It, however, had quite a fair share of drama that was relatable to real-life situations where a couple is murdered or has firms hire their assassin for monetary gain.

Instead of exploring the darker aspects of love, how money, greed and selfishness can tear apart almost any loving couple, they send the very wild, implausible suspicion on the lead couple that can only mean that communication was completely off between married people. There is no thrill in the erotic scenes and humor is not offered within the so-called ‘comedy’, only a dull, stupid story that is so bad it is lazy.

The performances are centered around the leading couple Natalia, Piotr, and their friends Agata and Lukasz. But we don’t know why they even consider acting, as their looks are not good enough for them to be liked or their acting is worth praising. The characters are lifeless, apathetic, dull, and devoid of chemistry.

The flash forward says five years later, it is now dragging tired Natalia who drags through the scenes. Her performance is rather bland because she is completely devoid of any likable qualities and her facial expressions are horrifically inaudible, that always defend the dialogue but are mismatched for any scenes.

However, on the other side, Piotr is a tad bit interesting, but his performance is no better than that of natalia. He is a narcissistic and naive idiot who is so thoughtless that he takes Natalia to a food court on their anniversary and makes her eat discounted food.

They are an awful couple who make the audience ask themselves how these two got married, for there’s no affection, chemistry, or strong connection in any of the scenes. Just like the leads, the supporting characters are interesting as they manage to make their friends believe that their spouse is after their life for money and in turn assist such a bizarre plot.

As in most comedies, Kill Me If You Dare has a good idea, and its intention seems to be making fun out of the irreparable trust issues, and communication problems, which arise in marriage. But, poor characterization, atrocious character development, and banal conversations do not make it possible for the audience to enjoy the movie whatsoever.

The writing is inconsistent, and when the screenplay becomes overly ambitious, it deviates from the core concept. So, Would I recommend that you spare time and watch this film? Not! The film is torture to sit through, let alone watch. The characters are exactly so dull that it makes one think they must have killed each other if there is nothing to cheer for. Their relationship is a lower case ‘z’ with absolutely no fire and zero chemistry.
