Five Breakups And A Romance: Plots And Storylines
The story starts with Lance and Justine in Singapore; both meet for the very first time thanks to mutual friends of both parties. Justine’s best friend, who hails from the Philippines, comes with her lover and a group of friends, one of whom is Lance, to a show in Singapore. Being the only two single people in the group, Associating themselves after the concert, Lance and Justine agree to break off.
In the end, Lance joins Justine on her walk around Singapore, after she says farewell to her friends. Toward the end of that night, Justine is imagining a racy one-night stand in a hotel room which she manages to have on the day that follows.
When do Lance and Justine become lovers?
Following their passionate night, Lance surprises Justine with flowers the next day at her work. Justine and Lance end up going out for dinner after Justine is done working, where Lance opens up and tells Justine that he likes her. While skeptical, Justine gives in to the arguments of Lance who tells her to surrender to her feelings and give love a chance. There is no need to think about the future, only to cherish the time that they have together. Consequently, Lance remains in Singapore for another couple of days and shifts in with Justine. But that is not to say that drama does not occur earlier, because a couple of days later the first break-up occurs. Lance seems to be perfect boyfriend material, which is troubling because he wants to date Justine while in the Philippines.
On the other hand, Justine begins to think that they may not manage to like each other after all, especially when they get to stay together for extended periods in the Philippines. Ina and I are both reluctant to treat this as the end of their relationship, so Justine argues they should leave behind whatever they have back in Singapore and treat it as “one of those things” which is best left in the past. Later, so when Justine was saying goodbye to Lance, he was wishing he would see her for the last time and would return to the Philippines.
Sometimes, what causes the second separation?
This is when Lance and Justine decide to try dating, and Justine comes back to the Philippines. In that fateful day, Justine is waiting for him to arrive together with his friend, Marthainge. In reaching out blindly, she shoots him a message in which she asks what is taking him so long and why he claims he has been waiting. Finally, Lance comes in the presence of a lady friend, Pia. He explains that he was working with a study group and no one anticipated being stuck in traffic. However, this does not stop Lance’s friend from probing Justine concerning the circumstances behind her resignation in Singapore and the drastic shift in her career focus during the meal.
After her departure, leaving Lance in pursuit of her, the blood-curdling series of events leads to another crucial subsequent section of the film where the two characters are involved in dramatic conflict.
Lance previously lied to Justine about the group study, and when she is insistent that he has cheated on her with Pia, he tells her he failed his studies and does not even know if he wants to be a doctor anymore.
In this case, it is she who frustrates him, because, according to him, she always thinks she knows everything, this is why he prefers enjoying the warmth of Pia resting, because she can relate to him without any condemnation. Justine says that she was ready to sacrifice anything for Lance as she was assured about their relationship, but that relationship is no more now. She seems confused as to where the love has gone.
The confrontation situation threatens to get out of control with Lance and Justice hurling insults at each other until Justine leaves angrily. After this, Lance heads to Justine outside and they speak nicely when he inquires whether they have broken up. Lance assures her that when he exercises, in this case, his wrist, he gets the same feelings he had when he met her for the first time, which leaves Justine wondering if they really can pull it off.
When do they meet again, what did they do, and what did I miss until then?
Their next reunion and getting back together occurs when they go to a wedding two years later. Justine’s parents renew their vows and invite Lance to their wedding. Lance is okay, and Justine wants to become an entrepreneur. Justine’s relatives are satisfied with Lance and consider him their own. Justine and Lance decide to give each other some space and just go on a trial period for the relationship.
In the after-party, the guests talk about marriage and dating, thus making Lance say that he is up for marriage but Justine probably isn’t. Later on, together and mumbling sweet nothings, Lance and Justine manage to leave their relatives to stop asking them awkward questions and go to the beach with wine, where they spend quality time.
Justine explains how she will be balancing going back to her job and the opening of her fashion boutique. She feels it is not right to burden her parents and she does not allow Lance to give her some credit. In her mind, she is completely ready for the tension that will involve a 9 am to 5 pm job, and managing a boutique. Ever since she moved out, Lance has been asking Justine to move in with him. He is ready to offer his help, which is the only thing he can do, and he thinks if she doesn’t have to pay for rent, it may assist her while she is restarting her life. He connects them as they are not in a romantic relationship anymore, he says, but they will be in a different kind of relationship: cohabiting, which very quickly changes when somebody won’t resist from kissing someone else, which was him leaning and kissing her.
Why do they split again?
The fourth segment, Everybody Hurts, takes place during the crisis of the 2020 Covid-19 pandemic, a global health crisis. Physically, and emotionally, he is a mess as an experienced doctor and even more due to events that happened between him and Justine. He’s upset, and, as it turns out, it’s because his ex-wife was cheating too in an audio message to Justine, she accused him of cheating on Pia.
At that time, he was angry, and her attention seemed a good distraction after one of their arguments. I deliberately avoided mentioning it to her for such a long time. He infers clicking in bad places to make things happen that weren’t because he wanted to be with her. Their quite apparent breakup occurred in the third year. Relying on my emotions, I think this is over. So I think this is the final drop. All is good at Justine and she has established her shop and is marketing the designs while her family also supports the business.
Lance and Justine do not end up in a relationship. Justine is angry, and I feel my heart will break, and I don’t know why. Three years later, they were happy, though. In the meantime, after an interview, Justine’s father visits the shop after running away from home. I become too dependent on the future and time. I know where it’s headed. I’m tired of those situations so time makes sense for me. Justine works nine to five, and manages everything during the day.
They ponder on “quantum entanglement”, and Lance expresses his gratitude to Justine for her part in his improvement. He begs for her pardon for being unfaithful and for hurting her. She confesses that in some ways, Lance helped her to learn about herself and her choices by testing how much her heart could bear, and how much she could expect and had to give up, and she has no regrets about it and never will.
Lance expresses a wish that if there could be a different scenario, then it would be. But Justine does not agree with this and explains to him that it is probably how it was intended to be for them. He adds that they are still best of friends, which he states will never change.
The film features a strong emotional range and effectively depicts the battles experienced during the high and low phases of a relationship. Unfortunately, and like any other film, there is a lack of a fairytale ending for the protagonists, and more specifically Justine and Lance, but rather a lesson: that a partner can only tolerate so much within a relationship before they draw the line and refuse to be given any further chances.
It fuses the trip or romance, depicting the lovers in their good times and bad when they are going through the ups and downs as they try to discover their future, both in life and in love. The performers are admirable in their actions throughout, but when the characters are together, the magical bond seems to be missing. Even so, five breakups and a summer fling is worth for viewing, and they will keep you yearning while also dishing out a heavy reminder of how relationships are.
