Death Before The Wedding Plot Summary
Death Before The Wedding is a Polish Film which mixes drama and comedy. The movie describes a family trying to come to terms with a business crisis and the impact it has on their family life. The movie opens with a graduation ceremony where Maja, an honor student, is graduating and Mirek, her father, has great expectations for her future.
Mirek dreams that Maja will go abroad for higher education and will pursue a career afterward. But Maja has her own plans. She wants to marry her fiancé, Milosz and relocate to her hometown, where she intends to start a science lab.
What makes Mirek suddenly change his mind about Maja’s wedding?
Until a disaster event occurs and forces him to relent. The family business, The Little Delight Dairy, is going to shut down. The parent company is going through restructuring, in which they are closing down small ventures that are not profitable and shifting focus to more profitable ones.
On his way to a family holiday with his wife Monika and two sons, Rylski, the company’s CEO, drops by the dairy. While he is late for the manager Szyszko’s funeral, that does not prevent Rylski from proclaiming that the dairy is going to be closed.
Everything is different now that Amble is dating Regina who is a mother to Monika. During light chit chat of life and family, she adds that her daughter Maja is somewhere tying the knot, which catches Monika’s attention. One of Monika’s dreams has always been making wedding plans, and now it is her golden opportunity. That is why she alters the agreement, meaning they can keep the dairy property only if she can make plans for Maja’s wedding. This puts Mirek in a tough spot with no option but to agree to the wedding.
How will things unfold with Milosz and Maja?
Maja takes turns with Milosz to allow him to meet her parents. Seeing someone as progressive as Maja marrying her daughter made Mirek’s heart sink because Milosz is a black man. To this day, his being of a different race means bullying fester to annoy. Put it this way, If he decided it would be the only outcome. And instead of romantic, Mirek is busy organizing a wedding in fourteen days. Not long into it, he and Milosz become friends, and concrete plans about saving the dairy are brought forth.
Milosz, with his exceptional ideas on improving the production line, including where to purchase equipment, was an asset as a graduate in production and logistics. Regarded as spoiled, Maja agrees to the wedding despite knowing it’s a cover-up scheme to keep the dairy running. Her time at the dairy with Regina and other women leaves her awestruck by their skills. Maja, an entrepreneur, also reserves premises for her lab.
Even though they understand the wedding is meant to salvage the dairy, they, too, consent to go along with the wedding. The wedding gets derailed because of a quarrel between Mirek and Rylski. By the time it gets sorted out, Milosz and Maja have decided they will get married, just not yet.
What is motivating the women to confront the men head-on?
Regina, Karolina, Iza, and Hanka, although equally competent to their male colleagues at the dairy, were never allowed to rise up the managerial ladder. Any breakdown in the production line and Karolina has it fixed, while Hanka looks after the household single-handedly without her husband’s help.
Iza fills cheese containers proficiently and indulges in social media, as she has 500,000 followers on Instagram. Regina is an incredible leader, but never takes charge as she prefers supporting Mirek from the background.
When he is in a relationship with Mirek, Rylski uses him to negotiate a deal and execute a plan for the dairy’s profitability, then offers to take the head manager’s position. After putting the plans in place, Mirek himself takes the role of the manager, but the daughters are not of his household and decide that she must be Regina. This disagreement leads to putting the men and women head to head.
Each side must come up with a strategy formulated in two weeks, and whichever team wins gets to pick their choice of manager.
So, does Little Delight Dairy get canceled?
Milosz’s and Maja’s wedding is the perfect time for Mihrek to discuss selling plans he had with Rylski, until he overhears Rylski’s intention of still selling the dairy. He cancels the wedding because he doesn’t want Maja and Milosz caught up in Rylski’s schemes. Monika steps in and, out of jealousy towards Rylski, convinces him to sell the dairy to the rest of the family for cheaper.
Milosz’s family extends help, as Mirek and his family are unable to raise the funds. Little Delight Dairy’s cheese wows Milosz’s father, who chooses to invest in it. This enables the family to purchase the dairy from Rylski, who is left with no option but to concede or incur the wrath of his wife.
Both teams had some amazing strategies to pitch to Rylski. In a moment of desperate attempt, Mirek took a loan against the house and did not tell Regina. The men spent the funds to purchase new equipment for the production line. Their additional equipment ends up bringing about some other issue, none of which works properly.
On the other hand, social media is diabolical in the hands of other women. They come up with the most outrageous ideas of doing a cheese rolling race, but have women partake instead of men, and then cover and post the entire thing online. Unfortunately, the woman sustained broken legs and a neck, not to mention ending up in the hospital, and the video received a mere twelve views.
How does the film ‘Death Before the Wedding’ end?
Towards the conclusion of the film, Mirek appreciates Regina more as a leader. And she becomes the new manager for the dairy plant. The cheese rolling video caught the eye of a cheese rolling company. After the signing ceremony of the sale contract between Rylski and Regina, company executives came to visit the Little Delight Dairy.
The executives came to sign an exclusive contract for purchasing cheese with the Little Delight Dairy. Thus, finally saving the Little Delight Dairy, which now starts its business with an exclusive contract from the Cheese Rolling Company.
