A great present that goes with a pleasant past for Wyndham Rotunda
So as we switch to the 2020s, one particular name began to shine even more brightly over others, such name being Bray Wyatt. A WWE superstar who overcame all the trials and tribulations of the company’s NXT developmental territory and then found himself being employed as both a physically and creatively sounding performer. That’s quite unfortunate anyway because we lost him rather prematurely. So the WWE presents Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal a documentary that is directed by the WWE and tells the story of the achievements and early demise of Wyndham Rotunda about whom it can be said, was Bray Wyatt.
Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal opens and closes in somewhat the same method every other film about a popular and cherished person about how they are born into this world and then eventually have to die. But there is so much detail and so much unseen footage that develops in the middle of the documentary which would even interest a quite casual wrestling fan.
Wyndham Rotunda spent his childhood years in Brooksville Florida in a wrestling background family. His dad and uncle were part of Wrestlemania 1. Rotunda however would try to pursue a career in the NFL after graduating college and Lacrosse would start losing interest in football which is how basketball came into play.
When he was in WWE NXT, the character he was playing was one that had no value and was a cheap creation based off his robust physique. Rotunda would then return to the ‘Drawings’. With an origin in the Southern part, he sought out the Southern Gothic style when creating a persona; he would study cult leaders, dispassionate maniacs, and even Robert De Niro in Cape Fear to create the character later known as Bray Wyatt.
After that, Bray Wyatt: Becoming Immortal depicts the great success and the utter downfall of Wyatt’s journey in the WWE. The former included making it up to Wrestlemania about a year after nearly giving up on what he thought was going to be a long-term career as a wrestler. The latter includes his marriage break-up, being released from WWE, and trying to decide the course of action to explore.
The WWE only offers glimpses of how individual characters were developed, which is why people might think that this film was more of a ‘behind-the-scenes’ piece than an actual documentary creator of Bray Wyatt’s character. So, Rotunda was a phantom of a man, so to say, whose frozen demeanor and voice creeped many fans out who eventually began following the wrestler and loved him for his odd character.
This documentary indeed makes us immortal Bray Wyatt. He passed on the scene very soon after he returned to WWE, which was an exciting time for the industry. Rotunda died quite early of a heart attack; still, he had left a wealth of creative content for us. It’s hard to remember the last time there was a character with such presence in the wrestling world that it seemed unrealistic and real at the same time as the presence of The Undertaker.
One would find it difficult to make a valid argument about your dissatisfaction with the documentary’s quality. The story is being promoted by WWE, so they broadcast their side of the story.
A tad long, it is, but Rotunda’s story is very intriguing and real gosh, how he blindsided us!
