A moving tale revolving around love and sorrow
Jao nai Huun is a touching movie inspired by three friends and their fond memories when one of them, Kevin, becomes too sick to continue battling cancer. Shane, Bryan, and Tupe are childhood friends, and although they were separated at some point when Tupe moved to the city to become an actor, they reunited later in adulthood. After a night out with their friends celebrating Shane’s birthday, she is taken to the doctor where she finds out that she is suffering from liver cancer, which is classified as a recurrence of cancer.
Nonetheless, Shane does not want her husband to endure the same financial and emotional burdens because she believes there is a low likelihood of her recovering. On the contrary, she hopes to finish a list of activities she feels she must do before circumstances make it impossible. Hence, Bryan and Tupe volunteer to take Shane to Tasmania in Australia as per her wishes. However, Tupe and Brian expect this journey to treat Shane’s will to charge her for the treatment.
This film is a mass love story. The idea of an illness-bearing person doing everything she can in her last days may not be novel, but A Journey is sagacious and one-of-a-kind in the execution of such a concept.
The dialogues are playful but encourages to reflect on serious life issues about what should people regard as important. For example, within the discussions of the three, the author tries to investigate is there a path, the end, or the people in life that makes sense. In addition, the sights too are stunning since the three drive around the island through hilly roads, grassy sidewalks, lakes, rivers, and even the penguins. Despite such a dull premise, the writer maintains a breezy and joyous atmosphere in the beginning of the film which is before the catastrophe, while the second half turns out to be dark and teary.
The interaction of the three, Shane, Bryan, and Tupe, engages the viewers affecting them in the emotional sphere as it makes the viewers cry. It is also interesting to clarify that this movie is as much about reminiscing with the two over Tabing Illog that aired between 1999 and 2002 as it is a comeback for the three of them. In addition, for the followers of the old school series, some points like the river and the music and even the guest appearance at the film’s closing scene are rather exciting. Therefore, such enthusiasm makes the journey worth it as it allows the actors to exhibit a strong connection that enhances the emotional component of the film.
The character of Shane is believable and accurately performed and Shane is there to provoke the audience saying don’t postpone your ambitions until the very last moment.
She lives with plenty of fears, despair, and heavy sadness due to her diagnosis but remains as optimistic and bright as they come. Bryan is an example of the kind of husband that we would all want to have during those moments when our lives are in danger.
He’s caring, helpful, and thoughtful yet persistent. Tupe’s character offers something else rather than the usual rich friend clichés that you see from time to time in the movies.
He is generous, compassionate, and caring as he even offers his shoulder and money for financial difficulties. A Journey is a fairly average film. It manages to make a mark for itself in the film industry by not following such a boring convention by showing the helplessness and despair of terminally ill patients in the latter part and portraying their unrelenting optimism in the fun first half.
